1st PRIZE - Artist, Elaine Alibrandi Oil on canvas, 40" x 30"
Description of work:
Oil on canvas depicting the one time I was able to fend off the rapist as he
bled on me. The dripping red symbolizes his blood, hot colors portray my fear
and anger, while the small handprints are mine trying to fight him off.
How it fits theme: During one sexual
attack upon me, I tried to use my small hands to ward off the rapist's large
body. This didn't work, of course, but I managed somehow to kick him in the
nose while he was concentrating on getting hold of both my wrists in one of his
hands so that I would be helpless. I was under him on a chair while he stood above
me. Blood poured out of his nose all over me after his shock and before he ran
to the bathroom.
