Shielaugh V.Divelbiss
  Shielaugh V.Divelbiss

Shielaugh Victoria Divelbiss hails from the west side of Cranston centrally located in the smallest state of Rhode Island. Here she spent her childhood making up stories, drawing fantastical beasts and illustrating stacks of books for her friends and family. Today she continues this passion for pictorial storytelling with a larger audience.

Shielaugh credits her high-school art instructor, Helen Poor, for honing her representational drawing skills and telling her "to be a wild beast when painting", which still makes Shielaugh think about the colour palette she uses. At the age of 15 her artwork began to appear in galleries in Providence, RI. At this same time she began teaching lessons to young children on Saturdays at The Tsetse Gallery.

In 1999 she moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend the Columbus College of Art and Design with a Presidential Scholarship. She entered CCAD to become an animator but during her foundation year color concept class she discovered her love for illustrating. In addition she was passionate about typography, painting in gouache and color styling. In 2003 she graduated Magna Cum Laude with her BFA and moved to El Cerrito, California.

She spent the next three years studying at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, where she graduated with distinction and received her M.F.A in Traditional Illustration in 2006.

After much relentless effort, Shielaugh got her first break in the picture book market at the end of 2007, with Abutech, LLC. Since then she has illustrated 3 full length picture books and has more on the way.

Her style is versatile and she can easily create the finished look that is desired, as well as create work in her signature style which is crafted in a collage fashion combining paintings in gouache, flowing fabric, and real life attachments making the reader want to touch each page.

She has also created logo and t-shirt designs; illustrations for use in greeting cards, brochures, tattoos, and magazines. While she loves working in the commercial market, she still finds time to create personal artwork that often times reflects darker themes, these works can be see in local galleries and shows.

When Shielaugh is not busy creating her art, she can be found enjoying local music shows with her friends or traveling. She lives with her family in Richmond Heights, California.
