Working at the Shelter

7/15/11

Its been a long time since I've blogged or posted any kind of photography. I've been working at the Northeast Animal Shelter for the last 10 months, which has been a fantastic experience. Just for fun, I've posted a small gallery of camera phone pictures of some of the dogs there. To the left is my Max, now eight, enjoying the summer so far.

Vietnam 1995

5/28/10

In 1995 I was working for the Harvard Institute for International Development on a student exchange program. They recruited students from Southeast Asia to attend US graduate schools. I traveled to Vietnam to assist with interview logistics. This would have been a great opportunity regardless, but it was particularly special since it was 1995, before relations were normalized between the US and Vietnam, so very few American tourists had been to Vietnam since the war.

Shots in this gallery are scanned from prints, so they're a bit blurry. If you order prints will be made from negatives and much clearer.

"Docks and Boats" Gallery and Some Outings

4/16/10

Today’s update, “Docks and Boats,” features waterfront shots. In New England I grew up with the ocean. Feeling the heavy, rhythmic crashing of the waves and seeing the vastness of the water seems to connect with something inside me.

This week I attended two interesting photography-related events to start learning more about the biz and meet people.

Last night, the opening for “Flash Forward 2009” featuring emerging photographers from the US, UK and Canada. It was held at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, MA, where I also volunteer.

Also, Wednesday I hit Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts, a fantastic school for digital filmmaking, photography, 3D animation and other cool stuff. A presentation given by a senior exec at Boston’s 451 Marketing covered the importance of social media in job searching and business in general.

Thanks for reading!

Welcome!

3/25/10

Hello and welcome to my website!

After many years as a public relations executive at a large agency and in-house at a large technology company, I have been working freelance for the last few years. Sometime during the second half of Oprah one day, I realized the periods when I lack a full client list are the times to explore long dormant creativity.

My first gallery, “Snow in the Trees,” was taken after a heavy nighttime snowfall in Eastern Massachusetts. Morning broke to reveal a brilliant blue sky, resulting in nice light and shading. While also compelling in color, I felt black and white really brought out the contrast among the white snow, dark trees and black buildings.

I hope you enjoy these and the more to come as I fill the site with many photos I’ve taken over the years. Please sign the guestbook to be notified of updates!
