  Ruby St. James

Only child of a French war bride from the Normandie coast and a Virginian Veteran of WWII, born and raised in Pennsylvania.  Two years of high school on a Navy base in Pusan South Korea during the Vietnam years.  Graduated from a state college with a Psych degree, married, moved to suburban Chicago, then transferred to southeast Tennessee for 11 years, returning to Chicago in 1987. Day job in the legal/insurance fields.  After 30 years of marriage, no children, divorced, bought a loft in Logan Square and experienced a traumatic emotional event in October 2006.  Months of behavioural therapy led to my discovery of a talent for artistic expression in the spring of 2007.

My unique sense of femmedom is being actualized through brushwork and sketching.

Acknowledgements:  Chris, my art therapist, for providing me with the only formal instruction I have received; Drew aka "Black Phantom" and William aka "Monsieur Duvall" for their collaboration in exposing me to the elements of photographic expression and the amorphous beauty in my own world.

Wax, acrylics, papers, feathers, leaves, glass, fabric, bodily fluid, pencil, metal, flowers, oils ... an endless string of textural things to tempt and challenge me.

My loft is my gallery. I am self-made woman. I am self-made artist.

Vive la femme.
