The shortest day of the year ~ Winter Solstice ~ has passed.  I've draped my purple goth lights in black tulle in a canopy over my bed and burn my mistletoe-scented candles nightly while listening to jazz and classical holiday music.  My friend and I attended the Joffrey's Nutcracker ballet this week and I was utterly transported to Clara's dream world of snow and fairies.

Even though things in Florida ~ my destination ~ are in turmoil, I will be happy to spend the time with them and celebrate both Christmas and New Year's.  This year I am making an overnight visit to historic Venice, FL on the Gulf Coast as a diversion.  It is known for the shark's teeth that wash up on the beaches and miles of cycling trails through parks and along the gulf waters.

So I wish you all peace and good fortune in 2012.

The photo is from the lighting of Chicago's tree at Daley Plaza in November.
