I am a sculpture and painter; I mix the mediums together on many of my projects.
The background I have as a child was deeply influenced by my mother (an artist/potter), my sudo-stepfather and friend David Stiffler (an Fine Artist/historian), my introduction to many creative individuals/artists in Lower Manhattan as a child in the early 70's, meeting and visiting Alexander Caulder's studio as a child, my creative imagination, my education at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh- 3D and Industrial Design degree, my years working in the theater, set construction, scenic painting, my years working in the Television Industry as a Prop Master, Set Designer, Prop Fabricator, Special Effects Artsist, Art Director, Production Designer; has brought forth the many elements that I bring to my fine art work.
The material I tend to work with are numerous, from concrete, copper, wood, paints, stains, plaster of paris, steel, barbed wire, burlap, soil, sand, historic elements, found objects, semi-precious stones, cured animal part, glass, fiberglass, latex, and others that slip my memory at this time.
I tend to work in a more organic direction, in my designs, when working with wood, and wood carvings. My work tends to ride a tougher more extreme tone when I am working in concrete, steel, wire, plaster etc.. I love the use of texure to convey feelings and emotions. The visual response to these elements can be very profound, in some case volitole expressions have been noticed. The viewer responds in many ways, with many views, these are manytimes very different from the idea behind my creation intially, which is fine and interesting to hear.
