I grew up in Orange County, and attended college in
both northern California and Italy. After 3 years of working in TV
production, I was laid off. This provided the push I needed to finally
make my next step. Teaching is something I have wanted to do since 6th
grade. My teacher had a profound impact on me; he loved his job and it
showed.
After concluding that TV production work wasn't for
me, I made a 5-year plan (during one of my 12-hour night shifts). First
and foremost was "A rewarding career." Soon afterwards the company was
forced to downsize and I was laid off. I turned my attention back to
teaching, both as a rewarding career and to utilize my love of art.
I graduated with a B.A. in studio art with a drawing
emphasis, and a minor in English. I also have extensive experience with photo/darkroom
techniques (including pin-hole cameras, paintable emulsions,
medium/large format), wheel throwing (weekly hobby of mine for four
years now), and theater/carpentry (set builder and stage hand for two
seasons).
I plan on working my way through my master's program
as a substitute teacher. I have already completed a substitute teacher training program through OCDE. I feel that with my extensive background in
art, I could offer your students more than any other substitute
available. I will also need 100 hours of observation time over the
course of my program, and would be happy to hear from anyone interested
in letting me drop by your class.
