"X on 0 off” is constructed of recycled materials including
glass molds for making resin grapes (from the 1970’s), thread, plastic caps, plastic
frames of unknown origin, all materials are recycled. Thread is captured in the
glass molds as well as between the two plastic frames of each panel. The red
thread floats behind the X and the O, between the two plastic frames of each
panel. The X and O are floating and yet contained in a box.
“X on 0 off” was conceived with multiple meanings. “ XO “
can mean “ Kiss Hug”, or “ X On or O Off” which is the basic tenet underlying all
of modern computing. XO is also the designation for an Executive Officer in the
military and a designation for a high grade of Cognac as well as the symbols used in tic-tac-toe.
