THE SMILING PINEAPPLE
$75

The pineapple is the symbol of welcome from the Caribbean to Cape Cod to Diamond Head. I always thought they were from Hawaii, but noooo, originally from the Caribbean, an island now called Guadeloupe about 400 miles North of Trinidad was where Columbus first tasted them.

Columbus brought some back to Europe in 1493. Everybody loved them. England's King Chuck the Second loved them so much he had a painting made of one to remember it by.

To the island locals, it was a symbol of hospitality, and the visiting Spaniards knew they were welcome if a pineapple was placed at the entrance to the village.

This symbolism spread to Europe then to North America, that's how it got to Cape Cod. It seems there is one in gold leaf on every sign in town.

Well, I thought if King Charles the Second wanted a painting of a pineapple, maybe someone else might after 360 plus years. This 6 by 4 inch acrylic painting really says "Welcome" with Pineapple Pete's big broad smile floating over the shorebreak.

A great house warming gift, or artwork for that guest room that just says, "Thanks for coming, you are welcome."

Painted on stretched canvas and double coated with acrylic gloss varnish, signed on the bottom in silver.
