Jeff Kovach was born in a sleepy steel town about 75 miles north of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He has since moved to San Francisco. A life long artist, Jeff has worked with such classic media as oil on canvas, steel, gouache, and watercolor, but his true love has come to be digital media. A self taught outsider artist, Jeff attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for one year before leaving, believing the curriculum to be too commercial. "My mission in art simply said, is to make sense of my life and the world around me. Introspection and an existential point of view have been there always. My first painting was a cathartic experience; an exorcism of sorts." Over the years avid interests in philosophy, physics and politics have found their way into Jeff's work and are noticeable in his latest pieces. Comfortable working both figuratively and in abstract he extracts his art from photos of his older drawings and paintings and also from found images. A staunch perfectionist, Jeff rarely ever feels a piece is finished and saves multiple versions of each digital work for further editing at a later date. Just as Jasper Johns wanted to save every brush stroke in wax, it seems that Jeff wants to save every change in his images for further inspection and recombination.
