. Towards a spring season, the temperature is getting increased. While it is comfortably warm, there should be no problem. However once it gets too warm especially during day time, we need to pay special attention in order to keep flowers as fresh as possible. Also it is important to prolong the life of fresh flowers that are much more expensive than before. The most important point for keeping fresh flowers is Clean Cut and Clean Water which means as follows:
(1) Clean Cut: After you buy fresh flowers at a floral shop (or flower market), in order to use them for flower arranging, you need to do following CUT:
A. Cut stems with sharp knife (knife is better than scissors) by keeping stems in the water (better to cut stems while they are under water rather than cutting above water). Also cutting with angle is recommended to increase the space for hydration.
B. Remove unnecessary leaves from stems by cutting with scissors or knife. By cleaning unnecessary leaves, flowers look better and also it helps avoid bacteria to grow in the water. Growing bacteria in the water results in shortening the life of flowers.
(2) Clean Water:
When keeping fresh flowers in the water, always use fresh water and try to keep it as clean as possible whereby you can avoid or reduce bacteria to grow in the water. If bacteria grows, water smells very bad and flowers do not live long.
As far as above arrangements are properly done and the water temperature is kept reasonably low , you don't have to use flower preservative. If you love flowers and would like to enjoy floral arrangement, you need to take a good care of them as if they were your own children. In addition to making beautiful floral designs, you will learn how to handle and take care of fresh flowers at California Flower Art Academy.
In order to enjoy flower arranging or doing floral business, you are involved in doing BEHIND THE SCENES activities such as procuring fresh flowers at a flower market, transporting them to and from a market (or floral shop), cleaning water and flowers and preparing flowers for arrangement etc. California Flower Art Academy
