This picture shows 3 dimensional decoupage put in the frame. This is made of the multi layer pictures. The surface of completed art has glossy coating so that it looks like being made of porcelain. We understand this kind of art originated in Europe (most probably in France). Some of Japanese people who are interested in European decoupage art are learning this particular art.
In Japan they call this art "Shadow Box Art". However in America Shadow Box Art (or Shadowbox Art) does not mean this kind of precise and 3 dimensional art. In order to make this particular art, a very precise and detail oriented job is required. In this sense 3D decoupage art is quite suitable to people from Japan because most of them are quite skillful. We tried to teach this art to local people in the United States totally in vain.
It takes too much time and detail oriented work to complete a work. Most people in the United States prefer only one day seminar or short period of program. And the size of hand/finger is too big for them to do the job. PLUS, it is so difficult to make money from this kind of art even after acquiring a high level of skill. Being such situation, we are offering a very small class which is not held constantly. If there is a request from a very diligent student who is skillful and patient, we consider offering special lessons.
