From person to person the type of floral arrangement they want to learn is different. Namely some people want to learn Japanese Ikebana. Some would like to learn European style of arrangements. Some prefer American floral designs. This is because each person has a different taste, purpose and goal for learning flower arrangements.
If you would like to learn floral designs mainly for doing floral business such as running your own floral shop, working as a floral designer for a florist, offering wedding or funeral floral decorations, it is the best to learn and earn practical skills of making European style of floral arrangements.
Although we can find many fans who love Japanese traditional Ikebana (and actually we teach this floral art as well at our school), the skill of Ikebana arrangement is not so useful for making a business oriented use such as wedding or funeral decorations. On top of that if you would like to sell floral designs at your floral shop, it is much better to sell European designs rather than selling Ikebana arrangements because Ikebana is not so popular in the world of regular florists and also online flower market.
Compared to Ikebana, European floral arrangements can be used to a much wider range of use. If you would like to enjoy floral decorations at home to make domestic floral arrangements to display at home or making a floral gift for your friend's birthday, European arrangement is the most useful. Not only for hobby but also for doing floral business in the United States, it MAY be the wise decision to earn skills of European flower arranging.
