Since our school specializes in teaching floral arrangements, flower designs and floral decorations, we do no offer any classes teaching how to do floral business such as running a floral shop etc. If our students have successfully completed all the requirement covered in the curriculum, can they do a good job at a floral shop ?
To answer this question is a little bit difficult because there are so many things employee of floral shop needs to do. If he/she is assigned a job focusing on flower arrangements or floral designs from the shop owner, it is obvious that such employee can do a good job satisfactory to the shop owner.
However when it comes to other jobs what are called Jobs Behind the Scenes, employees need to learn from OJT (on the job training) after being hired by a floral shop. If such employee was a good student when he/she learned floral arrangement at a school, he/she can do a pretty nice job (or job satisfactory to the shop owner) as far as floral design work is concerned.
As you can easily guess, there are so many types of jobs to run a floral shop. If the size of floral shop is small, each employee must wear a multi-functional hat for taking care of receptionist, phone operator, taking care of customers, online and offline marketing for making advertisement for getting customers, inventory control, cash flower management and simple accounting job as well.
If the employee is authorized to take care of broad range of job, it is mandatory for him/her to learn such a job through OJT (on the job training) which is so important for him/her to be accustomed to daily works during shop operating hours. If you are planning to have your own floral shop in the future, it is recommended to get a job at a floral shop even as an intern or volunteer worker.
If your floral design skill is pretty good, you can most probably get a job at a floral shop with a reasonable salary. Even in this case, you still need to learn daily job besides floral arranging work so that you can completely become familiar with entire range of works necessary for running a floral shop.
Although we do not teach you how to run a floral shop, we can help you earn practical flower arranging skills by way of hands on training of ONE ON ONE instructions (semi private lesson). For beginner students, we recommend following programs:
