The photo shows Ikebana arrangement designed and made by the head instructor of California Flower Art Academy
. This was made during a real lesson of Ikebana arrangement. As the shape of this arrangement shows, it is totally different from European or American style floral designs. Ikebana often uses curved or curly narrow branches that often take a very important role among various elements used in arrangement.
As the photo shows, Ikebana is a typical asymmetrical arrangement which is seldom found in European or American designs. Also the line arrangement is Ikebana's popular way of design. In case of American or European way of arrangement, we often use lots of filler flowers that are inserted into floral foam soaked in a container. The way of Ikebana arrangement is totally different. We use Kenzan and Suiban for what is called Moribana arrangement. In case of Nageire arrangement, we use vertical container in which we do not use Kenzan. Instead we often use manually made stopper and holder (to firmly hold elements in a container) made of stems or part of branches used for the arrangement.
