Floral artists usually follow orthodox flower arranging rule that is widely adopted in floral design industry. Namely they design floral arrangement by making three important elements named (1) Mass flowers (2) Line flowers AND (3)Filler flowers. Among these kinds of flowers, mass flower is usually located in the center or in the primary location of floral arrangement and flowers used for such function often have an outstanding color .
Designers use mass flowers that are eye catching and drawing viewers' attention. In this sense mass flowers are used as focal flowers. Some people name it face flowers. Therefore mass flower, focal flower and face flower mean the same flower. Only difference is the way of expression which is different depending on the shape of flower, function of flower or location of flowers.
Floral designers often flashy, loud and showy color flowers including but not limited to roses, tulips and sunflowers etc. As far as the flower is outstanding and eye catching, it deserves a focal flower. Besides mass flowers, we usually place filler flowers and line flowers to support mass flowers.
