I am based in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. After matriculating in 1985, I spent 3yrs at The School of Art and Design in Port Elizabeth, where I majored in Graphic Design. I spent a few years working at print shops and also worked as an artist for a decorative sandblasting business in Johannesburg, SA, but always wanted to paint and explore my talents with colour on canvas.
I started painting seriously about 10yrs ago, and work mainly with Acrylics, but do love working with Oils as well. My graphic design training is quite evident in most of my work, but I have also tried to "break out" and experiment with textures in some works. Most of the canvasses I have done have been commissioned, and I have sent work as far afield as Texas USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I really enjoy doing larger than life florals, but also find great satisfaction in doing seascapes, animal and human portraiture and working on murals. I have not as yet had my own exhibition, but have exhibited in local galleries along with other artists.
Because I love working with my hands and being creative, I also enjoy making props and decor for themed parties and for shows. My biggest challenge in this arena, was working on the production of "Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" in 2011, where I designed and made all the sets, props and costumes. I learned a lot working on "Joseph" and now really enjoy making unique party decor and "props" using recycled materials.
I am very blessed and fortunate to live close to the sea and find constant inspiration in the ever-changing beauty of the waves and the sky where I live.
My art doesn't have any special meaning, but I like to think that each piece carries a piece of my heart. I just try to create something that I, and hopefully others will find beautiful. One cannot improve on the perfection of God's creation, but I love the challenge of trying to capture Creation of various forms as best I can, as beautifully as possible.
