One overcast afternoon in Lahinch, County Clare, Ireland I was walking in the back fields along the Atlantic of the Leahy farm I met this gorgeous creature. We both paused for a moment in our quiet solitude, exchanged curious glances and went on our way, me for one, somehow a better person as a result . . .

body

"this is my body . . ."

Resting high above the medieval village of Ennistimon, County Clare, Ireland is an abandoned convent.

These baking tins and crucifix were found beneath years of debris in the kitchens of the convent.

One can imagine the tender care that the nuns once took in generously preparing bread for their flock, funerals, celebrations and the larger community . . .

“Nothing was ever in tune. People just blindly grabbed at whatever there was: communism, health foods, zen, surfing, ballet, hypnotism, group encounters, orgies, biking, herbs, Catholicism, weight-lifting, travel, withdrawal, vegetarianism, India, painting, writing, sculpting, composing, conducting, backpacking, yoga, copulating, gambling, drinking, hanging around, frozen yogurt, Beethoven, Back, Buddha, Christ, TM, H, carrot juice, suicide, handmade suits, jet travel, New York City, and then it all evaporated and fell apart. People had to find things to do while waiting to die. I guess it was nice to have a choice.”

~Charles Bukowski, Women

"But leave me a little love,
A voice to speak to me in the day end,
A hand to touch me in the dark room
Breaking the long loneliness.
In the dusk of day-shapes
Blurring the sunset,
One little wandering, western star
Thrust out from the changing shores of shadow.
Let me go to the window,
Watch there the day-shapes of dusk
And wait and know the coming
Of a little love."

~Carl Sandburg
