A portion of your soul has been
entwined with mine
A gentle kind of togetherness, while
separately we stand.
As two trees deeply rooted in
separate plots of ground,
While their topmost branches
come together,
Forming a miracle of lace
against the heavens.”

“Emerson, I am trying to live, as you said we must, the examined life. But there are days I wish there was less in my head to examine, not to speak of the busy heart.”

We will be having this unique Creating Your Vision workshop at The Dorrance, 60 Dorrance St, Providence, RI

https://www.google.com/maps/place/60+Dorrance+St,+Providence,+RI +02903/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x89e445141af37bf9:0x75f7ee499a774864? sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwigyJDp5P_NAhVMKh4KHSIPCqEQ8gEIHTAA

We will be photographing the lovely model and ballet dancer, Christine Kaminski and The Dorrance’s own Shane DiBlasio! Shane and Christine will be interacting with artist Virginia Fitzgerald's poetically moving and beautiful dress sculpture, “dear jeff . . .”

The story of 'dear jeff . . . ‘

This dress is a commissioned sculpture for a man, Jeff, who lost his fiancée in the events of 9/11/2001. She had flown to New York early that morning to attend a business breakfast at the Windows of the World restaurant.

“Located in the heart of downtown Providence, The Dorrance restaurant maintains the

timeless elegance of yesteryear in a gleaming, contemporary way. High ornate ceilings, a

long, luxurious bar, and a well-appointed dining room are the backdrop for hand-crafted

cocktails and globally-inspired, New England cuisine that commands respect.”

On the 10 year anniversary of this tragedy Jeff felt that it was time to let go of his box of memories. He contacted me and asked me if I could create something from his collection of letters and cards and remnants from the tragedy. I was honored to have been asked and accepted the task.

Jeff handed me a large box full of letters; notes between the couple during college, cards of encouragement for new jobs, the announcement about their engagement, articles about 9/11, the missing person flyers, and then an abundance of condolences
cards, from friends, family, coworkers, communities and even strangers. These communiques played a huge role is Jeff's recovery; the power of a caring community.

When Jeff approached me, he didn't want a memorial of his fiancée and her death. He wanted a sculpture that would portray the importance of community, and the positive growth that can come through adversity, as well as a celebration of Amy's spirit. The essence of this dress is similar to the story of the phoenix, who rises from the ashes renewed after apparent disaster or destruction.”

peace, Virginia

“And if travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it’s a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, in dimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end.”

Looking back with a smile upon the talented musicians that I have had the honor of photographing, this shoot in the back alleys of Onleyville, an industrial neighborhood in Providence, RI was one of the more spontaneous and fun.

Originally from Bristol RI, Eric Bloom is one of the most diverse trumpet players in the nation and is a member of Lettuce, The Shady Horns, and Pretty Lights live band. His sound incorporates elements of Funk, R&B, Soul and Jazz. www.ericbennybloom.com

Rumor has it that Eric Benny Bloom is returning to Providence to play a show at Aurora on August 13, 2016 ;)

“The frame, the definition, is a type of context. And context, as we said before, determines the meaning of things. There is no such thing as the view from nowhere, or from everywhere for that matter. Our point of view biases our observation, consciously and unconsciously. You cannot understand the view without the point of view.
