Art and Craft yard sales

1/27/11

Collectors and potential buyers of art and crafts, I'm planning monthly art and craft  yard sales for the neighborhood.  this is an excellent opportunity to buy fine art originals at reduced prices.  Also, jewelry, painted furniture, and other craft items. Refreshments will be provided and music, for a pleasant and refreshing afternoon.  I'll keep you posted as I  continue to brainstorm for new ideas for enhancing your lives through art.  My work is also being displayed in studio 12 at Distinction  in Escondido, distinctionart.com  and at St Clair Gallery in El Cajon. stclairgallery.com

Poetry and Art - The Tree

1/21/11

The tree stands barren, awaiting a change in season.

The land is abandoned, without cause or reason.

Darkness looms amidst a deserted place;

All has disappeared without a trace.

Barren, not even a heron.

No sign of life, not even dejected strife.

Where are all the people?

Where is the voice calling in the wilderness?

Where has hope of the land vanished?

Emptiness abides, a desert land resides;

Waiting for a season, waiting for a reason;

A reason to return to a wasted land.

Rebuild a community, and construct a plan.

A plan of attack.

Tear down the old shacks.

"Plant a garden", said she, and fertilize the tree.

Appreciating The Work of Other Artists

1/20/11

Beauty or what's considered anesthetically pleasing is all in the eye of the beholder; this also applies to art.  Different people like and view things differently that's because we are all different. Therefore, it's understandable  what may appeal to one person, may not to another.

 Another artist once made a very hateful and damaging comment regarding my painting 'Circletime Stress Busters' and published it.  I don't know the person, but for someone to do such a mean and careless thing speaks volumes concerning their character and the type of person they are.  I have had many favorable comments on the painting, so I realize it's a matter of preference.  It's ok not to like a particular piece of art.  sometimes as artist, we pump out pieces that we are not completely satisfied with and we sometimes go back and rework the piece.  Art, that is in good taste and decent, should at least be met with appreciation of the artist for sharing it with the world; as they are sharing a part of themselves and who they are.  Does anyone have an opinion concerning the matter?

About the painting:  Circle Time Stress Buster is a fun piece that I did to relieve stress.  The vibrant colors and creation of circles up against the background colors created a flow of positive energy, dismantling all levels of stress.  I enjoy looking at the colors and mandala shaped visuals.

Appreciating The Work of Other Artists

I enjoy Todd Sander's Art.  I purchased this piece serveral years ago.  It reminds me of a famous comedian.  Todd's use of color has a "thinking outside the box" feel to it.  He is uninhibited by color, paints for enjoyment and self gratification; which, gives him the freedom of expression in his desired art form.  Todd shares himself by producing art that depicts everyday life and situations.  I appreciate his work and am one of his many collectors.

Appreciating The Art of Other Artists

Shelly Dedman's Ladybug- in Norma Brinker's private collection
The nature painting of a ladybug on a giant flower is by Shelly Dedman.  It is a delightful piece and is displayed on the inside gate of my porch.  It fits perfect with the outdoors.

The mixed media collage of an African drummer and dancers is another piece displayed in my African themed kitchen.  It was purhased at Where The World Meets at Market Creek Plaza (now closed, sad to say)- artist unknown.

I think the title of the 3rd piece is 'Jeffrey's Angel'; created by Karen B. Field   It is displayed in my hallway.  it was purchased at a gallery in Laguna Beach.

Art enhances our surroundings.  I can't imagine life without artful expressions.

Next- Appreciating and being respectful of art  you are not necessarily attracted to.
