Merganser Flotilla
Merganser Flotilla

Oil on Gallery Wrlapped Canvas, 24"hx30"wx1.5"d

During the winter and early spring, large flocks of the common merganser are seen diving and fishing. Generally, the males fish separately from the females until courtship interests begin. Then, the comical antics of water slaps, 'roaring' postures and chest bumps intermingle the groups. As evening approaches, all seem to settle down and peacefully accept the leader's choice spot for the night.
