Kuhl Frames + Art is a collaboration between husband and wife team, Travis Kuhl + Elisa Carozza. Travis and Elisa teamed up in Philadelphia where Travis received his AA in photography at Art Institute of Philadelphia and Elisa received a BFA from Tyler School of Art.

From Photography to Framing...
Travis spent over 17 years working as a commercial photographer specializing in architecture and interior design. Utilizing a large format 4 x 5 camera, and traditional film, Travis' work required intense attention to detail, there was minimal post production manipulation involved so the shots were composed and lit entirely on location. Elisa has been painting for 30+ years and has exhibited at galleries, art centers and local museums. While still doing photography, Travis began making ad hoc frames for Elisa's paintings in the early 2000's and when digital technology became the norm in the commercial photography, Travis decided to switch careers. Bringing passion about art and design to collaboration with clients to facilitate their vision made custom framing seem like an ideal transition.  Like photography, it requires meticulous attention to detail and quality, while being creative with solutions for challenging projects, it was no brainer! After working in the industry several years, managing retail + wholesale frame production, it seemed time to open their frame shop + gallery. By October 2007, Travis and Elisa had opened Kuhl Frames + Art in the resurging neighborhood of Uptown Oakland, California. We built a loyal following of repeat customers, and the gallery featured rotating exhibits of local and national artists working in a range of styles and mediums. Lil Tuffy's Annual Poster Retrospective had a 13 year span, and was always an eye-popping graphic display. See our past gallery shows on our Featured Artists page. Along with framing and art, they incorporated artisan jewelry into the mix. After doing trunk shows at open studios and events, Elisa debuted "Buenas" at the shop in 2016, a collection of artisan jewelry imported from Argentina, seeking out unique designs and handmade pieces directly from the artisans in Buenos Aires and surroundings. After 13 years in Oakland, Elisa + Travis decided it was time for a BIG change. Having fallen in love with Bend in 2019, the time came to make the decision of where life would take them for the next adventure so they rounded up the wagons and headed north to Oregon in late 2020. Deeply inspired by the beautiful landscape of Central Oregon, Travis + Elisa are so grateful and thrilled to have found our location in the amazing community of Northwest Crossing (NWX) in Bend, Travis and Elisa look forward to meeting you!
