I began taking ceramic classes since I had an interest in sculpture. What I discovered was a fun way to learn about myself and my environment. Working with clay became a mediative experience for me to calm my mind and exercise my creative muscle. I observe the environment with more awareness. Shapes, textures, and movements are some of the elements that I observe then attempt to translate into my work.
I primarily work with stoneware although I have used terra cotta and paperclay for sculpture. Alternating between wheel thrown and hand-built pieces provides a continuously way to explore shapes and movement. Then exploring glazing through the chemical science to achieve positive interactions for desired texture, brilliance, and harmonious colors
