ARTIST STATEMMENT The artist Mauri Virtanen is based in the city of Quito wich is the place where he studied architecture, usually he exhibits his paintings in Ecuador and other places around the world and has been recognized with some awards in Ecuador, Finland and Romania such as the First Place in the International Art Contest for children and youth “OPEN DOORS” that took place in Romania in 1996. His first international solo exhibition was inaugurated in the Palace of the Romanian Parliament in Bucharest-Romania in 2001, his artworks are in private and public collections worldwide. Watercolor portraits I like to paint portraits and afortunately I have had the opportunity of painting portraits of people in authority and common people as well, I enjoy the experience of getting the likeness with my own style .
Watercolor urban and rural views As an architect I like very much the urban scenes and because of living in a very historical city, I decided to paint these watercolor artworks, almost all of them are views of the beautiful capital of Ecuador, the place where I live.
Horse watercolors “I love horses, from all animals living on earth they are the most painted and photograped. I decided to paint horses and scenes with horses to form a collection of art called “Among horses, flowers and landscapes of my country” . I show you just few samples of the paintings of this collection for you to see how beautiful are this kind of animals.”
Watercolor religious portraits I like to paint portraits and afortunately I have had the opportunity of painting portraits of people in authority and common people as well, I enjoy the experience of getting the likeness with my own style. Art goes beyond religion, I was given the opportunity of painting some artworks to be exhibited in prestigious museums run by the people in religious authority and in well known churches as well.

Most important artworks During my life I have been choosen to paint the following works of art among others; I consider them so special, because of being exhibited in public places such as: churches, galleries, school facilities, etc. and because of being part of publications as well. I want to show you a selection of my last most important artworks, i n some of the cases, every single one of them represents “my first experience in that field ”.

Awards I present you a chronological sequence of the most important events that have marked my career. This sequence begins in 1992 with my participation in the II International Visual Art Meeting arranged by Lasten ja Nuorten Taidekeskus in Finland, without any doubt this is the start point of my professional years.
