Recently, I attended a wonderful pastel portrait work shop for a day. The work shop was taught by Alicia Sotherland in her studio in Escondido. Alicia is an extremely talented artist. I heard about her classes from the Rancho Bernardo Art Association, when Alicia did a demonstration for the membership. Her unique approach to pastels has been an inspiration to me. Alicia's technique uses a suede mat board for the pastel surface which gives the painting a rich and expressive appearance. It is quickly becoming my favorite pastel surface.
The reception for this exhibit is scheduled for Saturday, June 11th 7-8:30 PM. There will be live music by jon-ji and refreshments will be served. The cookbook "No Starving Artist Here!" will be available and for sale at the reception. Art lovers, friends and family are welcome to attend.
