My Native American Medicine Stick is fabricated from copper sheet. The copper is heated with a torch, folded, pounded, textured, soldered, and colored with a beautiful patina. The medicine stick is a symbol of the Great American West days long gone. This particular stick has many hidden meanings. The 7 feathers represent my lucky number. The copper wrapping on the handle is wrapped 31 and 22 times in different sections to correspond with my two son's birthdates. There are 4 pieces of copper wire that are flattened to resemble leather strands, that is the number of people in my family. There are also 19 wrappings on the handle that resemble bead work that correspond with the age of my youngest son when I presented this to him for his 19th Birthday. It was such a spiritual experience and journey creating this piece of art. I enjoyed it tremendously and hope you enjoy viewing it as well. Thank you. |
