Gathering spokes

Once all of your spokes are inserted and the dowel is in place, take a doubled length of strong thread (I used top stitching thread) and catch a small piece of the fabric on each casing, halfway between the outer edge and the bottom of the casing. Pull up to a desired "openess" of the umbrella. Tie off and pull the knot to the inside to hide. Voila! You can add special little details at this point ie a loop handle , a strap to hold it closed, etc..
