Jimmy Sun is living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He has a mechanical engineering degree and an art diploma with the highest honours.

He started drawing and painting since his early childhood . He received his mechanical engineering degree in 1982, however he has always kept the dream of painting as a professional artist alive. In pursuing of this goal, much of his spare time was spent on reading art books, practicing drawing and painting, attending art shows. He has never given up his goal to explore the amazing world of art. Through his hard work and plenty of practices, in 2009, he was granted by ICS Canada the art diploma with the highest honours.

He had attended the 24 online lessons "Paint Stunning Landscapes from Photos" instructed by Johannes Vloothuis and sponsored by Wetcanvas of F+W Media Group. He also joined Mr. Vloohuis’s workshop where he had learnt and practiced various subjects’ paintings under Mr. Vloohuis’s instruction.

In recent years, he has been focusing on oil painting. He adores the way of playing with light and color in Impressionism. He expresses his enjoyment of art through his own paintings with adept skills. Jimmy Sun's paintings are being featured in galleries and private collections.

He hopes, through his paintings, everyone will be able to enjoy the beauty of the nature and the pleasure of the art.

Tell us about your work.

In recent years, I have been focusing on oil. My favourite is landscape although I also paint portrait, animal painting and floral painting. I adore impressionism and have been learning and practicing to play with light and colours. I want express my love of the beauty of nature through my paintings.

What inspires you to create art?

Love of art and nature inspires me to create art. I hope my art works can bring enjoyment to our society.

How do you handle the business side of art?

I have attended various art shows actively for many years. My paintings are showing in different galleries in Toronto area. I post painting sales on arts and crafts classified websites. I also have a personal art website:  http://www.zhibit.org/jimmysunpainting.

Has there been any significant event(s) that have shaped who you are as an artist?

In 2000, I immigrated to Canada with my family from China. Since then I have discovered Canada as a paradise of art. Canadians love art very much. Excellent art literatures are abundant and there numerous galleries with great many artworks on display. The beautiful Canadian landscapes are the never exhausting resource for my inspirations.

1.          Never give up.

2.          Practice makes perfect.

3.          Educate your prospects.

Why art? Why do you create art?

Creating art and expressing my love inspires me and brings big enjoyment to me and others. The process of evolving ideas into art works really amazes me. Art creation also brings me satisfaction.

Do you prefer to make people laugh or cry? Elaborate.

I prefer to make people laugh and happy.  Our world is not a perfect one yet. Many people feel pressure and suffer. Pressure and suffer make problems. I want to do my best to remove the pressure from people and make people feel as happy as possible.

Are you self-taught or formally trained?

Ever since my early childhood I enjoyed drawing and painting and took my first art lessons at the age of 11. After high school, my entry examination for Art College was unsuccessful. Instead I went to university and gained my degree in mechanical engineering. However, I have always kept the dream of becoming a professional artist. To pursue this goal, I spent much of my free time in reading art books, practicing drawing and painting, and attending art shows.

To aid my pursuit of becoming a professional visual artist, in 2008, I joined ICS Canada’s Art programme. Through one and half year’s hard work and plenty of practices, I was granted the Art Diploma with the Highest Honours.

Go with the flow.

What are 3 words that sum up your artistic identity?

Colourful, Attractive, Exciting.

What are you most proud of in your life (art or otherwise)?

Became a Canadian citizen and living in Canada.

What are you working on right now?

I am painting more Ontario landscape oil paintings.

Where do you feel most inspired and productive?

Ontario’s beautiful parks, gardens, lakes, cities, towns are my inspiration.
