Almost all of my training has been self-taught. However, I received some mentoring in the Marine Corps as an illustrator for Fleet Marine Force manuals, posters, charts, slides, etc. Afterward, I became a member of the Black Panther Party, where the artist and author Emory Douglass greatly influenced me.

Between 1973 and 1993, I worked in various jobs, and I was a part of the Washington DC gallery scene. I hung my art in multiple galleries in Washington, DC, until I came to California in 1993, where I worked as a graphic designer, art teacher, and drug counselor for a while. I currently work at a high school in Oakland, CA as a Restorative Practice Coordinator.

I sometimes hang my art in the City Arts Gallery in San Francisco. I often have an idea, and then I wonder, What is it? As a creative person struggling with naming ideas, I always look forward to the moment when an idea, a title, or an image comes to me.
