This brooch, Sergio, is made of gourd, metal leaf and paperclay. The brooch is 3 x 4 x 1 1/8 inches. I completed this piece in 2010. A gourd is a hard-shelled fruit related to the pumpkin, squash and cucumber. It is durable, lightweight and watertight. It also grows in an array of shapes, sizes and textures.
