I love creating portraits of the people I encounter each day. The uniqueness, the beauty, and the complexity of each individual fascinates me. I'm a relatively shy introvert so portraiture becomes a way of relating to and honoring the lovely life of others. I also enjoy a more whimsical and playful approach to art making that draws heavily on cultural issues and daily experiences. Even in this work, the human figure is usually present. I sketch a lot and am rarely without a sketchbook in hand. The immediacy and freshness of the drawings are very appealing to me.
