| | | Kuba - Deux | | | | "Kuba - Deux" and its partner work, "Kuba - Une" are inspired by the bold, abstract geometries and rich textures of hand-woven raffia cloth from the Kuba people of the Congo.
It's woven of fibers from raffia-palm leaves. Left in its natural color or dyed with organic red, brown and ochre dyes, it is sewn into applique and reverse-applique treatments. Production of these textiles is a multiple stage process which involves the participation of children, men and women of the same clan, which is another reason the cloth has attraction for me.
"Kuba - Deux" is 22"x28" and is all acrylic on stretched canvas.
Currently on exhibition in Wash. DC. Possibly available after 10.2009
