There are more goddesses than gods in Theyyam, embodying the primal feminine energy that manifests itself in the bodies of men, as the dance is only performed by males, wearing false breasts.

Look she's wearing false boobs -
A man dressed as Mother Theyyam!
She isn't camp or comical -
She's terrifying and tyrannical!

Hergold and turquoise headdress
Is a potent crescent moon.
She could be the Pope, electrifying
In Bacon's chair, brain frying.

But she's magnificent in her skirt -
Her full-blown wedding skirt.
Where is her elaborate bridal wreath?
We forget what she is underneath.
