Mask making

Facilitation costs €40 per hour or €180 per day, plus travel expenses to your venue.

A mask workshop needs a minimum of 8 2-hourly sessions spread out over a period of time.
Ideally these sessions could be once a week, or in the case of summer Schools and intensive workshops, can be fitted in to a two week period.

Mask making material costs are additional to tutor fees. These are fairly minimal, as most materials can be re-cycled.

A typical list of materials:
Clay
Petroleum jelly
Newspaper
Old sheets, ripped and cut into squares
PVA glue
Quick fill plaster ready mixed
acrylic paints
shoe polish
elastic and foam

Workshops in mask making are available on their own, or in combination with a Mask Theatre workshop programme.

The two slide shows illustrate in detail the process of making masks 'Mask Matters' style.
This process can be adapted slightly for children, but using papier maché of any description necessarily calls for a good deal of drying time.

An intensive series of workshops in both Mask making and Mask Theatre usually culminates in the students performing short pieces in their own masks by the end of the project. These can be as elaborate or as simple as ability and time allows.

The imagination knows no bounds!
