Part of my cast iron architecture series. These buildings, built during the post civil war era, were the predecessors to the modern skyscraper. Built by half forgotten architects like James Bogardus and Griffith Thomas, they brought new industrial casting techniques, to commercial buildings by adding neo-classical facades creating new temples of commerce for America's industrial Revolution.
