Marilyn Grame was an American artist, author and art instructor, known especially for animal watercolor paintings and for contributing to how-to art books. She also owned Studio 2 Art Gallery in La Mesa, taught painting for decades, and worked on children’s books and animal jewelry.
Marilyn Grame, a native of San Diego, California, was exposed to art at an early age since her mother, father, and uncle were all artistically talented. She refined her natural gift by studying with several West Coast professionals.
As a former gallery owner, Grame has been represented by various galleries in the San Diego area. She has had solo shows in San Diego and Kansas, and has received numerous awards at local, state, and national levels. Two of her paintings were purchased for the permanent collections of the San Bernardino County museum. Her paintings are included in private collections of the San Bernardino County museum. Her paintings are included in private collections throughout the United State, Germany, Holland , and Scotland.
Marilyn was an art instructor for over 50 years. She gave painting demonstrations for art associations and women's clubs in the San Diego area, teaching and painting a wide range of mediums and subject matter.
Marilyn belonged to the national League of American Pen Women; Foothills Art Association, La Mesa; Fine Arts Associates, San Diego; and the Sand Diego Watercolor Society.
She authored books for Walter Foster art how-to publications and contributed to others with several leading artists. For example, in her book "Animals in Watercolor", Marilyn Grame opens her artistic world to you as she shows you how to create a variety of intriguing animals in watercolor. In addition to her own step-by-step method of developing a painting using the five-value approach, she provided additional tips on how to use mixed media such as colored pencil, pastel, and gouache.
