The Myth of
Sisyphus Performance art,Beirut Street Festival 2009,Ain Al Mreisseh ,1
hour (2009)
My performance is inspired from the Myth
of Sisyphus (of Albert Camus ) that
presents the fate of all human beings who struggle, suffer to realize their
primary ,secondary needs and fight the destiny to reach the unreachable
ignoring the weight or the rock they are holding or the prices they should pay to make their dreams come true…but the most
absurd thing in this story is that they are conscious that a dream is a dream
was it realized or not because our dreams as well as our struggle never end and
while Sisyphus was condemned by Gods to hold the rock, I think we, humans, participate
in building our own rock, our own suffer…
My
performance consisted of pushing with chains a very heavy mass “assemblage
“ for a distance of 50 m to go drink a
cup of water and then taking it back to the starting point (as a symbol of
cycle).
