The subject painting is of the Fens
Gardens off Huntington Avenue in Boston, Massachusetts. The painting is of a
scene in the late summer. "The Fens," as locals call it, is near the
Boston Museum of Fine Arts. The Fens had numerous spectacular gardens. A long
lily padded pond with multicolored koi fish, and an arched bridge were nearby.
I do recall, as a young boy, this garden in the painting was off to the right
after crossing a foot bridge. The original painting preceded my youthful
experience of the late 1950s, probably 1958 or 1959, by two or three decades.
Still, this is how I remember the garden. The original oil painting was by
Elenore P. Barth, which is in such dis-repair and faded colors that I decided to
repaint the subject in my own style using modern vibrant colors and
paints. The original artist, Elenore P. Barth, or E.P.B signed on the original.
