This study of an enchanting canal that Venetians view, float down, cross over as they go about their lives illuminates the ancient quality of this fantastic locale. As the eye studies the architectural details of the beige, coral, and faded pink edifices from left to right, one has the sensation that they could sink and crumble over into the waters at any time. Yet there is that little yellow open boat on the lower right that anchors the entire scene. It floats on impressionist liquid reflections of those edifices to secure them, hold them up, support that bridge for those who have come and gone through the ages. Sheila O'Rourke, Ph.D.
