Sunset
over palm-fringed isle, pastel on canvas. This is my second pastel
painting of that kind which are not painted on pastel paper, neither
boards. I have still a lot of old canvas sheets which have no
underground preparation, which needs to be different than when you paint
in oil a glazing technique f.ex., than what you would need for pastel.
Pastel is actually dust and needs a underground where the pastel can
grasp into the structure of the surface, so it remains on the surface
and needs to be fixed with fixativ.
