I graduated from Ringling School of Arts in 1976, and started my career in the field of advertising. Subsequently, I was recruited to work as an Editorial Illustrator and Page Designer for
The Miami Herald /
El Nuevo Herald, followed by
The South Florida Sun Sentinel.
In these 3 publications, I received multiple awards from: The Society of Newspaper Designers (SND), The Society of Illustrator (SI), The Society of Hispanic Journalists (SHJ) and The American Institute for Graphic Arts (AIGA). I also worked as Senior Graphic Designer for Barton G Enterprises and was an Adjunct Professor at the Art Institute (ai) in Miami.
My work
is inspired by the expressive potential of color, shape, and texture, and the
infinite possibilities of abstraction. I use acrylics, crayons, and mixed media to
create compositions that are dynamic, vibrant, and harmonious. I do not aim to
represent any specific reality, but rather to evoke emotions, sensations, and
associations in the viewer. My work is influenced by various abstract
movements, such as expressionism, minimalism, and geometric abstraction, but
also by various artists from the past like Gottlieb, de Kooning, le Corbusier along with some recent artists like Carvajal and Merello in addition to my own personal experiences, moods, and memories. If you like any of the pieces displayed here, feel free to contact me.
BTW I don't smoke cigars anymore but I look more Cuban with it.
