Spinal Operation

8/31/11

I had a massive spinal operation to my neck at the age of 40. My spine had degenerated and there was also a huge abnormal bone growth in my neck causing such sever pain that I would start to shake and get hot and cold flushes. A delicate operation was inevitable. Once home from the hospital I could do very little. It hurt even to pick up a casserole dish. I got bored sitting around and started to sketch again. This is a pencil drawing producted at this time of my life. It took days on end to complete because I could do such a little at a time due to the related pain in my arms and hands.

Continuing My Artist Journey

8/31/11

I eventually had to get employment as my home business was not making enough money. When my baby girl was only 18 months I left her with a day carer and went back to work. My son was in pre-school by then. It broke her heart as well as my own but eventually we both accepted it.

There was no time for sewing or anything else creative as I was working, running a home and looking after two small children. The only sewing I did was to make clothes for my children and myself.

I scetched this picture during that time and it is the only piece of artwork I would produce for many years.
