GWEN TOOTH – BIOGRAPHY – 2020
I am an experimental expressionist painter. I have completed several series of
acrylic paintings revealing the moods and energies of water – whirlpools,
waterfalls, and tsunamis and recently, White Water Rapids, achieved by applying
paint layers, thick and thin, suggesting the destructive force of the rapids. I
am a member of Propeller, Gallery 1313, and I am an Associate member of the
Society of Canadian Artists. I hold a B.A. from Western University, a BFA
(Honours) 2005 from Ontario College of Art and Design University and a Fine

I am an experimental expressionist painter. I have completed several series of
acrylic paintings revealing the moods and energies of water – whirlpools,
waterfalls, and tsunamis. For the “Niagara Falls in Winter” series, I created
acrylic paintings expressing both the rugged beauty and the powerful energy and
force of this huge waterfall. I experienced the impact of these waters in many
winter climates over many years of visiting “the Falls”. I applied many layers
of colours of paint, both thick and thin, building up ridges and suggesting the
power of the falls dropping and the mists that occur.

Show Description:
“Niagara
Falls in Winter”, is an exhibition of acrylic paintings in which Gwen has
experimented with multiple textures and glazes to present her impression of
seeing “the Falls” in winter on numerous occasions over many years.
Gwen Tooth
is an expressionist painter. She paints to express energy, soul and mood. She has in recent years completed several
series of paintings revealing the various moods and energies of water –
whirlpools, waterfalls, and tsunamis.
She is a
member of the Toronto collective Propeller, Gallery 1313 and an Associate
