Putting on an Art Exhibit

5/18/25

Art of Resistance
Myself and a small  group of women artists living on the Washington Coast are putting on an art exhibit of art representing resistance.  We see the right-wing take over of our nations arts as an attempt to squash artistic freedom of expression.  Reminded of Germany in the 1930’s and the establishment of the Reich Culture Chamber, which considered modern western art to be “degenerate,” we decided to put on an art exhibit that would display art in direct opposition to the right-wing in any country, in any age, taking away artists’ freedom to create whatever art they want.

Cats of Aberdeen Book

5/17/25

I went to hear some friends perform their music at a fun little local bar, Red Cedar in Hoquiam, Washington.  When I went to order a drink, I saw my "Photographs from the Street: Aberdeen Cats" book was sitting on the bar. I asked the bartender (and owner) if the book was hers and introduced myself as its author.  She shook my hand and said that the students in a class she teaches at the YMCA had given her the book as a gift because she so often talked about her cats.  She loves the book and said her customers also enjoy it.  It is moments such as those that bring joy to me.

And another show

Fall Gala Invitation
I acted as the Artist Liaison for the Grays Harbor College Fall Gala.  Over 20 area artists were represented.  I also curated and helped install the exhibit.  It was a lot of work, but very rewarding.

Putting on a Show

8/28/24

I have been busy preparing for the next show at the Healing Gallery of the HRH Community Hospital here in Aberdeen.  A new exhibit goes up late September for an October 2024 opening.  Each show stays on exhibit for about six months. The shows usually have about 40 pieces by local artists. This will be my fourth year acting as Director and Curator of this wonderful gallery we put together to provide beauty and solace to hospital staff, patients, and families of patients.

I took a trip to Paris recently and, in addition to seeing stunning art collections, was able to get several street photographs of cats in Bordeaux and Paris.  I have added a few more "France Cats" photographs to my Photography gallery if you would like to take a look.

A thank-you note

2/19/24

My treasured friend Nancy Farrar Coughlin created this collage for my book of photographs of Aberdeen Cats.  Her gorgeous cat Phoenix was not featured in the book as he is too shy to stay on the window ledge when I approach.  Maybe next time, Phoenix!  You can see more of her collages and her paintings at nancyfarrarcoughlin.com.

Phoenix would love to be included in your second edition, if we can get him to cooperate! Thanks for showing my collage and for sharing my web link. You have created a beautiful cat story!

The Healing Gallery

2/24/23

In addition to creating art, I also serve as the director and curator of the Healing Gallery in the HRH Community Hospital here in Aberdeen, WA.  Because of the pandemic, the show I curated in February 2020 was closed to the public until February 2023!  The hospital now allows a few visitors at a time and I was able to bring a friend to help add new art and reorganize the existing art.  The staff and patients of the hospital are very grateful to have some beautiful art to look at during difficult times.

Still busy with art

1/29/23

Baltic Gulls
As you can see from my last entry here, I let this website languish for several years.  In those years, however, I have been very active creating new oil paintings.  I have also started a street photography project that I hope to soon turn into a book.  Please check out my new paintings.  I have not yet posted my recent photographs but will do so in the near future.  Thank you for visiting my website and reading my newsletter.  I appreciate your support and interest in my art.
