Working with charcoal

I recently tried to work with charcoal pencils, as you see in the bird of paradise drawing. This weekend, I joined 3 other artists for Otto Sturcke's workshop at San Clemente Art Supply. I honestly thought that this process would be much quicker than pastels. Wrong! It is more labor intensive and takes much, much longer. No finger blending! But I did feel energized and determined to finish this.

Hey Karen, Awesome work, I know that charcoal has a special place in my heart, it is such a fun medium to work with, but it gets on everything! I laughed because I saw you wearing black, and just realized its probably what I have should have been doing for years hahhaha... Incredible Drawing! All the Best, Zach http://www.howtodrawrealistic.org
