"I'm Not Moving!"

9/28/13

I bought some Uart 600 sanded paper at the IAPS convention. This is the first time using this surface and I will use it again. I usually paint on La Carte sanded paper, which come in toned colored. This paper is off white, so I had to take light strokes of pastel and create a wash using a brush and water.
This is a California Brown Pelican I painted for entry in  the Foothills Art Assoc. Wildlife Show.

La Jolla Art Association presents .....

9/25/13

The 4th Annual Southern California All-Media Black and White Juried Exhibition will open on the 1st of October. I've had two pieces accepted.  As a colorist, I found it was quite a departure to work in black and white. I can't wait to see this show! The reception will be held on the 12th from 5 pm to 8 pm.

The Dames' Show

9/13/13

I sat the Gallery yesterday and the visitors who stayed to chat were very happy with show. This is the eighth year we ladies have been together for our annual show. I completed two new paintings this past week, just in time for the opening. The first is "Harry's Reflection". While in Santa Fe for the June IAPS convention, we came across a well lit stairwell, painted in the beautiful colors so prevalent in New Mexico. I asked Harry to pose for this, and he did....six or seven times until I was happy with the photo. We later drove down to Carlsbad Caverns. After dinner one evening, we took a wrong turn and came across this little scene in the alley behind McDonald's. It reminds me more of a still life than a cityscape.
