Awards night at the San Diego County Fair Fine Art Show

6/8/15

Thursday evening the Fine Art Divas put on a beautiful awards reception for hundreds of artist. There were 1,600 entries in the 2-D and 3-D art show, with less than 700 pieces accepted. So it was quite an honor to have my three paintings included in this show. If I'm not mistaken, it is the largest fine arts show in the United States.

Following the awards presentation, we were allowed into the Gallery to see the show. The theme for the fair is "A Fair to Remember," because Balboa Park, San Diego, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The park was created for the Panama-California Exposition in 1915. Thankfully, we still enjoy the beauty of the architecture of the "temporary buildings" created for the Expo.

I was happy to accept a 2nd place award and a special award for “Baking Day”. I also received an Honorable Mention for “I’m Not Moving”, the painting of a stubborn pelican sitting on the Oceanside Pier.

The juror for the pastel categories was Mary Aslin, a wonderful artist from Laguna Beach. Her award winning work can be seen on her website. www.maryaslin.com
