THE VIEW FROM NEW BRIGHTON BEACH

THE VIEW FROM NEW BRIGHTON BEACH

Two miles east of Capitola, this beautiful beach was once a Chinese fishing village named China Beach in the 1850’s, and later became known as Camp San Jose,  renamed by Irish immigrant and ex-mayor of San Jose, who then renamed it New Brighton. Generations have enjoyed camping above and lazing on the beach below.

This idyllic scene was captured on a 4 by 12 inch gallery wrap canvas with fine French acrylics by local artguy Vern Scharf, and protected for the ages with several coats of deliciously glossy acrylic varnish.
