COASTAL ARTICHOKES

COASTAL ARTICHOKES

Catherine de Medici is said to have brought artichokes to France in the 16th century as she arrived from Florence to marry the future Henry II. Historians believe they originated in Sicily or Tunisia where they were first developed into an edible vegetable. In 77 AD the Roman naturalist Pliny the beerguy called the choke one of earth’s monstrosities. If only he had lived until 1756, he could have tried one with mayonnaise.

This coastal farm scene was painted with the finest French acrylics over a stretched 4 by 12 inch gallery wrap canvas by Santa Cruz artguy Vern Scharf, and protected from the elements with multiple coats of acrylic varnish.
