There are a few ideas (or cliches) about the art life that I reject:

1.) You can't be content and make great art;
2.) You must sacrifice everything, including your family and your children, for your art; and
3.) You need booze, weed, acid, or other substances to make art.

Be kind to yourself, try to be content, seek lucidity, and always always always take care of your kids and your family.  Make time for your art, but make time for life, too.
